How to setup my bow?

With these instructions you will be putting together your bow like a pro. We’ll explain the first steps of setting it up and usage of your new bow. We used a Core Archery take down bow, but this manual is applicable to near most take down and recurve bows.

For a clear and plain explanation of how to setup a bow we've made a video that can be viewed below. In this video we shop a step-by-step process of how a assembly all parts of the bow and how to apply the arrowrest and nocking points

Stap voor stap aan de hand van afbeeldingen

Step 1. What do you need?

You don’t need any special tools to set up your bow. All of the things you need should be delivered as described.

– Riser/handle
– a set of limbs
– String
– Arrowrest
– Nocking points

Missing one of the above items. Please contact us and we'll make sure those will be delivered asap.

Stap 1.

Step 2. Assembling your bow.

Does everything look complete? Good! Let’s attach the limbs to the riser. Most limbs have a little sticker with specifications on it, and on there it should say either ‘upper’ or ‘lower’. This should speak for itself. Put the upper limb on the top side of the bow and the lower one on the bottom side. In the case of screw-on limbs, slide the base of the limb into the pocket of the bow and screw it tight, but not too tight.

In the case of ILF limbs, you just align the little dovetail part with the slot intended for it and click it into the riser. The pointy part of the limb should point away from you when you are holding the bow, like you see in the picture.

Step 3. Attaching the string.

Your string has one big loop and one smaller loop. The bigger loop should be the top one, and thus be attached to the upper limb. Slide the big loop over the limb (be careful not to stretch it, this might damage it). Put the smaller loop on the bottom limb, in the correct position already.

It should start looking like a bow at this point, and the string is hanging loosely on the limbs.

Stap 4. Het spankoord gebruiken

If this is the case, continue to the next step. Grabbing your bow stringer.

Your bow stringer typically will have a little pocket for a limb tip, and a loop you can put over the limb in its entirety. Slide the loop over the top limb and attach the little pocket to the bottom limb. Make sure everything sits in the correct position before trying to out tension on it. The loop of the string should be between the limb tip and the loop of the stringer on the top limb.

If everything is correct, step onto the bow stringer and lift the bow up from the riser.

The limbs will bend enough for you to shove the upper loop over the tip of the limb. Make sure that the string is properly seated in the groove before releasing the tension of the stringer.

When everything is done correctly, you now have a strung bow!
